Chinese Government Scholarship

In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education, and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Academic programs of Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Law, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy and Arts in 252 designated Chinese universities are available to scholarship winners.

CSC designates China University of Mining and Technology to accept full scholarship winners.



Full Scholarship


● A fee waiver of registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks.

Cost of experiments or internships beyond the program curricular is at student’s own expense.

Cost of books or learning materials other than required basic textbooks is at student’s own expense.

● Free on-campus dormitory accommodation.

Scholarship recipients registering before the 15th of the registration month (the 15th included) will be granted the full living allowance of that month. Recipients registering after the 15th of the registration month will be granted half of the living allowance of that month.

● One-off settlement subsidy:

CNY 1,000 for new students who will study in China for less than one academic year;

CNY 1,500 for new students who will study in China for one academic year or above.

● Outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China.

● One-off inter-city travel reimbursement:



Application Procedure

● Applicants directly apply to the designated Chinese universities undertaking this program. Please visit www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org for the university list and more information.

● Recommended candidates must finish the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students. Please go towww.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click Application Online for International Students, complete the required information, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online and print a hard copy.

● A package of complete application documents (Please check Application Documents for the detailed checklist.) must be submitted to the designated Chinese universities before the deadline.

Please NOTE CSC does not accept any individual application other than the recommended applications from the designated Chinese universities. Applicants should consult the designated Chinese universities for the instructions of the CSC Online Application System for International Students and Agency Number.



Application Documents

● Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English). 

● Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations. 

● Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations. 

● A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English with a minimum of 800 words. 

● Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. 

● Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works. 

● Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months. 

● Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package. 

The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate) and sent directly to the designated Chinese universities, who will forward the nominated documents to CSC before April 30th. No application documents will be returned.
