Zhenjiang ,a fresh and beautiful city on the south bank of the Yangtze River ,and inlaying at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, connects Shanghai to the east and Nanjing to the west. On the north bank across the Yangtze River, lies the city of Yangzhou. Being one of the 13 cities directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, Zhenjiang has the sub cities of Danyang, Jurong and Yangzhong, Dantu District, Jingkou District, Runzhou District and Zhenjiang New Area under its jurisdiction. Covering an area of 3847 km2, it has a population of 3.019 million, among which 1.153 million are under urban residents. Zhenjiang has become a new and developing city with a combination of port, industry, commerce & trade and tourism among the Yangtze River Delta regions.

Zhenjiang, known as “The Home of Sweet & Sour”, is situated on the crossway of the third longest river in the world---the Yangtze River ---and the longest man-made canal in the world---the Grand Canal. Zhenjiang is close to Nanjing, Changzhou and Yangzhou. Zhenjiang serves as an important transportation hub in the Yangtze River Delta. Zhenjiang Port, one of the 5 major ports in Jiangsu (the other four are Nanjing Port, Suzhou Port, Nantong Port and Lianyungang Port), is an important transfer port for goods from the upper and middle parts of the Yangtze River. It is 90 km away from Nanjing Lukou Airport and 60 km from Changzhou Luosuye Airport.

Like its Jiangsu neighbors, Zhenjiang is influenced by the Asian monsoon and the Yangtze River, the region enjoys subtropical climate and distinct seasons. Sunshine time is up to 2,057.2 hrs and non-frost period is 238 days. It has distinctive seasons, warm and moist with adequate precipitation.

Zhenjiang has powerful economic strength. Its GPD in 2007 was 121.3 billion RMB and per capita exceeded US 5600 converted at the current exchange rate. Its fiscal revenue was 20.33 billion RMB, fixed assets investment 58.8 billion RMB, foreign trade and export US 3.69 billion, contracted utilization of foreign capital US 2.31 billion and actual utilization of foreign capital US 1.06 billion.

Jiangsu Zhenjiang Export Processing Zone (EPZ) was founded on March , 2003 with the approval of the State Council. It is located in the eastern suburb of Zhenjiang, 28 km away from the downtown, 1.5 km away from Dagang Foreign Trade Port District and 15 km away from the entrance of Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Closely linked to the Customs Supervision Station and Zhenjiang-Dagang railway. The total plan area of the zone is 2.98km2.

Jiangsu Zhenjiang Export Processing Zone is suitable for export-oriented enterprises, especially those enterprises whose orders come from aboardthose which require zero storage and some dragon-head enterprises which export products as well as warehousing enterprises offering services to the production of enterprises in the EPZ and transportation enterprises approved by the Customs to handle the import & export of cargoes in EPZ.

This folk story has been adopted, edited and played in many Chinese folk operas, novels and movies.
